Featured Friends

I am often awestruck at what my friends do. Sometimes because it’s straight up “she works at NASA” sort of stuff. More often, however, it is because I observe their quiet-but-impactful life.

So, meet my friends. Each one has some area of expertise or a certain way about them that is worth taking note. Enjoy what they have to say.

I can describe Stefanie by what she does, which is a lot. Hospice chaplain, writer, entrepreneur, nanny, trail runner, teacher, children’s pastor, rock climber. Or I can describe her by who she is - an observer of people, a magnet for others’ most vulnerable stories and emotions, nature lover, deeply compassionate, creative, kind, good, calm, contemplative, ready to laugh. She is one of the most complex and beautiful people I’ve ever known. Conversations with her are at another kind of level that always leave you feeling heard…. and also having learned something.

She has true wisdom to share, and thankfully she has taken time here and there to put her thought-provoking words onto paper. Enjoy one of my favorite articles.

A MOM WITH A HEART FOR ADOPTION

Ashley Newcomb had me at hello. We met and became fast friends four years ago, and we’ve never had a conversation without, like, 24 children surrounding us.

Part of the reason is because of her beautiful heart for at-risk children. She and her husband Austin have been a Safe Family, accepting small children whose parents are in jail or going through a tough time. They’ve also participated in Beautiful You, a program that accepts teen girls who are pregnant and have no place to go. All while intentionally parenting their four biological children. They are quite something.

Now their journey is taking them to adoption. Lord willing, this month they go to Virginia to meet their precios baby boy! Read about her heart for “the least of these” and her adoption journey here.
